Josh Hagen has a diverse background in bioelectronics research and Human Performance Monitoring and Augmentation. In 2018, Josh became the Director of the Human Performance Innovation Center at the Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute at West Virginia University. Josh leads a multidisciplinary team focused on optimizing the performance of military, athletics, and clinical patient populations, using the Fusion Sport SMARTABASE platform to aggregate data. This will be a fantastic insight into his cutting edge research in human performance and sport biometrics, and how we can best utilize data to improve athlete performance.

 

SPORTS TECHNOLOGY: SWORD OR SHIELD?

 | Director of Performance Research and Development, Philadelphia 76ers
For the last three years David has been responsible for creating an elite support unit for NBA players at the Philadelphia 76ers. In his talk David will look at the challenges faced by professional sporting teams in using sports technology to gain insights into important questions, and how we can convey evidence-based recommendations with conviction, despite working in a fragile environment. Some of David’s past research has focused on fatigue, training load quantification, demands of competition, tapering, thermoregulation, belief effects and altitude training.

 

HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY EVALUATE AND IMPLEMENT NEW SPORTS TECHNOLOGY

With a Ph.D in sports science and extensive experience in professional sports (NBA, G-League, FC Barcelona) and olympic sports (Basketball, Handball, Spanish national swimming team) Lorena is well placed to comment on merging science with practical application. Lorena’s session will provide guidelines to assist sports organizations in the new technologies vetting process (separating the researched, developed and expert supported technologies from the marketing fluff) and their implementation.

Dan has extensive experience in the fields of strength and conditioning particularly with elite sporting teams. Currently S&C Coordinator at the Houston Astros, Dan has previously worked with the England 7s Rugby Team, Team GB and the London Wasps Rugby Club. Dan’s high standards of practice are underpinned by applied practice with scientific rationale and utilising innovative ideas and strategies to manage and develop programmes, teams, and individuals.
